MLK HS, NYC -- AOD's newest addition, (C) Yoshi Kagitomi (18 pts, 14 rebs), represents a new hope for the cellar-dwelling Dope. And, early on in this game he showed just why. The veteran center, on the wrong side of 35 years old, will be remembered as one of the city's best Asian players but he's not retired yet. Battling through a series of back issues, Yoshi looked to start strong against the powerhouse Quicks and get AOD off to the right start.

INSIDE THE STATS QIK (G) Ren Hsieh's 15 pts is the most he has scored in the BLUE league in 6 games and the first time he has reached double-digits since the 2K9 SPR season.
QIK (F) Shaun Young made three 3FGs for the first time since the 2K9 SPR season. Both he and Hsieh combined for 12-16 FGs (.750).
AOD (C) Yoshi Kagitomi's 18 pts is just one shy of his career-high and his 14 rebs marks his 4th career double. (G) Andrew Hara's 8 asts ties a career-high.
Kagitomi found holes in the QIK zone through the high post and quickly took advantage, scoring 12 of his 18 pts in the 1st half. He also defended last season's rookie sensation (C) Ezra Hoover with typical veteran savvy, drawing two consecutive offensive fouls.
The rest of AOD, however, struggled to keep pace and QIK quickly pulled ahead on what was perhaps surprisingly aggressive scoring of (G) Ren Hsieh who has up until now taken a background role while recovering from knee surgery almost a year ago. With the Quicks, Hsieh will be expected to score and be one of their key playmakers off the bounce. He was able to do so against AOD's man defense and through QIK's new motion offense.
Also, promising was the return of (F) Shaun Young. After an inconsistent 2K9 FALL season in which he missed numerous games and never found the groove from deep, QIK's new offense has suited him well. (G) Wilson Lew and Hsieh looked for him and he delivered. As did veteran (F) Alex Stewart, who continued to impress. Even rookie (G) Eugene Cleghorn seemed to fit in perfectly. (G) Dave Wong will only make them better offensively. There are still some weaknesses on D.
For AOD, it was the same old story. The Dope made a strong push in the 2nd half led by (C) Len Kamdang and (F) Vince Southerland as Kagitomi began to fade but AOD was missing something on the defensive end. While they played well overall, they QIK to shoot 51% from the field. On most days, that's not going to get you a win. New acquisition (G) Jason Chin was solid as a floor leader but had some growing pains with 5 TOs. (G) Andrew Hara put up a solid 8 asts but struggled at times to find a role in the offense. AOD certainly looks much better but they still need a little work to get to the next level. -- "Scoop" Jack Sun
