2K9 FALL Weekly Player Awards (Week 5)FBNYC, 11.4.09
Joe Kim (SLA)
G/F | 5-11 | 175 lbs
Week 5 Stats
PPG: 36.0
RPG: 2.0
SPG: 2.0

This Slayers' 2K9 FALL Joe Kim hasn't missed a step from the Fury versions's MVP pace in 2K9 SPR. "Sonic" is flat out getting it done from all over the court on offense and the former Def. MVP is still a ball- hawk on D. Back-to-back MVP?

RU: Usama Nausrudeen (AOD) 23 pts, 6 rebs, 4 ast
Young Yu (NYF)
G/F | 6-1 | 190 lbs
Week 5 Stats
PPG: 21.0
3FGs: 5.0
RPG: 3.0

Let's face it, "Butter" is in the perfect situation, he's got great young defenders and play makers around him. All he has to do is drop buckets and that he has regularly in the clutch. And, his on-court leadership can't be understated.

Runner-Up: Derrick Tyson (SWA) 19 pts, 17 rebs
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

D. Tyson (SWA) 17 rebs, 2 stls, 1 blk

We might have to start giving this award the interim title of "The Derrick Tyson Award for Hustlers." D.T. is getting it done day in, day out.

RU: Brent Morita (SLA) 5 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls, 1 blk
Defensive Player(s) of the Week

Kirk Kim (SLA) 7 rebs, 6 stls

Kim was a blaze of glory in SLA's win. No one harasses an opposing ball handler better right now. And 7 rebs? Boom. That just happened.

Runner-Up: Rob Toste (FAS) 11 rebs, 1 stl, 2 blks
The "High Five" Club

Victor Chia (QIK) 7-8-1-2-1
Rommel Dolar (NYF) 12-4-1-1-1
Amin Gillespie (SWA) 9-9-3-1-1
Brent Morita (SLA) 4-5-3-2-1
Michael Thompson (QIK) 5-7-1-1-1
Rob Toste (FAS) 11-11-4-1-2
Derrick Tyson (SWA) 19-17-2-2-1
Shaun Young (QIK) 11-4-1-2-1
Discorama Rookie of the Week

D. Tyson (SWA) 11 pts, 11 reb, 4 stl

There just wasn't anyone else that could come close to this. Remember the name, Tyson and the SWA front court are tough to beat.

RU: Amin Gillespie (SWA) 9 pts, 9 rebs, 3 asts
The "John Starks" Award

Alex Cho (NYF) | 3-12 FGs (.250)

Cho has struggled with his shooting but it hasn't really hurt. Fury is still winning now, just imagine when he catches on, usually in the playoffs.

Dishonorable Mention: A. Gillespie (SWA) 3-13 FGs

The "Chris Dudley" Award

Rich Chang (NYF) | 7-12 FTs (.583)

It has been awhile since Chang has made the cut but welcome back,"MC Pee Pants." It's never too bad to get Dudley'd when you win.

Dishonorable Mention: J. Yu (SLA) 1-4 FTs

FASTBREAK NYC'S 1ST ANNUAL HALLOWEEN CLASSIC

SWA (F) Derrick Tyson and QIK (F) Victor Chia tip off the 1st Annual FBNYC Halloween Classic.
Quicks escape as Swagganauts struggle to close

MLK HS, NYC -- If basketball is a game of runs, this was a pretty good example. On the line this 1st Annual Halloween Classic was a 12-pack of seasonal pumpkin ale for the winner.
The no. 1 Quicks entered the game without recently added (F) Alex Stewart and (C) Pat Pilar, not to mention (G) Jason Chin. SWA, however, would soon discover just how deep the Quicks are.

Right away, QIK went to work, jumping out to an early 15-13 1st quarter lead. (more...)

2K9 FALL Top 10 Plays of Week 4FBNYC, 10.30.09

Worship in the house of gothic synths conjoined with bombastic and somehow mesmerizing cymbals befitting only the darkness of All Hallow's Eve. We are celestial kings if only for today. 3 1/2 stars.

2K9 FALL Power Rankings (Week 4)FBNYC, 10.29.09
Quicks not just a bullet on their block

Just as soon as SLA exerts their dominance, Quicks overtake no. 1 spot

There's still a long way to go but with the additions of (F) Alex Stewart, (C) Pat Pilar and (F) Michael Thompson, the Quicks have made a significant power play and wrestled their way into not only elite status, but the league's no. 1 spot. The Slayers and Fury aren't far behind and their depth is the reason why. SWA and HYP are looking good but need a couple more quality wins. There should be plenty of surprises ahead. -- K.J. Li

1.

QIK

(3-1)

Undersized last season, the Quicks now have the biggest overall frontline in the league. With vets (G) Wilson Lew and (G) Jason Chin running the show, they're the team to beat. And, both last season's Out. Rookie candidates (G) Kenneth Van and (F) Shaun Young have yet to go off.

2.

SLA

(3-1)

Tough loss to QIK in Week 3, the Slayers showed some weakness in the paint in overall foot-speed. A move of (F) Harris Chung to a low spot in their 3-2 might have helped but he's best at the top. Slayers should bounce back, still tons of talent on this team.

3.

NYF

(3-1)

Fury barely survived SWA and looked terrible in a losing 1st half to AOD. Then they turned it on, but NYF would be better served to forget going green and just keep it on. Rookie (G) Jon Giacobbe is one to watch.
+1

4.

SWA

(2-2)

This is one of those teams that doesn't stand out to look at them but they find a way to get it done. Their front-court, led by (F) Derrick Tyson complements each other well and despite a costly mistake in Week 3, (G) John Hsu is getting it done in the clutch.

5.

HYP

(1-1)

Hypebeasts looked equal parts good and bad in their first 2 gms of the season, to be expected from the league's youngest team. (G) Ian Yu will be solid but consistent output from (F) Jason Wu and (F) James Li will be key. They sure looked better running than working in the half-court.

6.

AOD

(1-3)

Dope is looking for answers. Adding (G) Min Park should give them the second scorer they need to free up (G) Usama Nausrudeen but getting them to co-exist may be more of a chore than they bargained for.

7.

FAS

(0-4)

The Free Agents looked great against the Slayers but took a step back against HYP in Week 4. They needed (C) Mike Song, no doubt, but they could use another big to free up (F) Chris Moore. But, where to find one?

Observations... this week's SWA vs. QIK game has been randomly selected as the Halloween Classic Game, winner gets a FREE 12-PACK OF PUMPKIN ALE to pre-game for Halloween night... +/1 4 consecutive games AOD (C) Len Kamdang hits a 3FG? ...+/- 5 pts less on each team's PPG this week with the Halloween hangover? You make the call... fantasy basketball has begun.
