After a quiet game in the front end of HYP's Week 4 double-header, rookie (F) Jason Wu led the Hypebeasts to victory, going off against FAS, dropping a game-high 31 pts, in the blowout including 5 3FGs, 5 stls and a block.
Giacobbe suggested last week that if he got a chance to warm up he'd do better. He wasn't lying. Right away, Giacobbe was aggressive in looking for his shot and lit up the scoreboard, that is, when he wasn't finding (C) Bryant Picone for layups.
Runner-Up: Jason Chin (QIK) 11 pts, 5 asts, 4 stls
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers
Alex Stewart (QIK) 9 rebs, 1 stl, 1 blk
Few players cover as much court as Stewart. With his length and quick feet, he always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
AOD actually led at halftime so it was in no small part that Picone's 2nd half domination in the paint resulted in a 54-22 2nd half turnaround.
RU: Derrick Tyson (SWA) 11 rebs, 4 stls, 1 blk
The "High Five" Club Rich Chang (NYF) 14-5-3-2-1 Harris Chung (SLA) 10-4-1-1-1 Amin Gillespie (SWA) 8-3-2-2-2 Wilson Lew (QIK) 6-1-5-2-1 James Li (HYP) 14-8-1-1-1 Chris Moore (FAS) 14-5-4-1-2 Bryant Picone (NYF) 10-15-4-5-3 Derrick Tyson (SWA) 11-11-1-4-1 Jason Wu (HYP) 31-3-1-5-1
Discorama Rookie of the Week D. Tyson (SWA) 11 pts, 11 reb, 4 stl
Tyson has been the focal point down the stretch in every game he has played in. And, SWA has has gone 2-1 since he joined the team.
Runner-Up: Michael Thompson (QIK) 16 pts, 4 3FGs
The "John Starks" Award Min Park (AOD) | 4-15 FGs (.267)
Everyone in the league knows Park will shoot and when he gets it going, he's tough to stop. But, in his first game in Wk 3, he looked rusty.
Dishonorable Mention: R. Kim (FAS) 1-8 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award Ian Yu (HYP) | 1-9 FTs (.111)
As well as Yu played, his 8 missed FTs might have cost them the game. He'll have better FT shooting days but this one will be hard to forget.
Dishonorable Mention: A. Gillespie (SWA) 2-8 FTs

Player of the Game Derrick Tyson (SWA) 11 pts, 11 rebs
QIK (F) Vic Chia eleveates over the Slayers' defense for two of his four 4th quarter points.
Quicks huge against no. 1 Slayers
MLK HS, NYC -- The no. 1 Slayers taking on the upstart NYC Quicks started off as a classic showdown between a powerhouse and a team trying to prove it was ready to win its first Chip. Through two quarters, it was virtually even with the Quicks, holding a 24-23 lead but the tempo of the game so far was played to the Slayers' pace. SLA's defense had held a high-octane offense to 10 pts below their pace.
Into the 3rd qtr, the Slayers could score but increasingly struggled to stop QIK, a credit to their credit depth. Every time they focused on a player, the Quicks found another.(more...)
I like it... this is Bill Belichick style basketball. Run it up!!!

2K9 FALL Top 10 Plays of Week 3
FBNYC, 10.23.09
Raucously building its crescendo through a phalanx of distorted blues riffs, this is not for the faint of heart. Timing is paramount in this week's edition of virtuosity commingled with just the right amount of high drama. To be followed by a light epilogue to cleanse the palette. Four stars.

2K9 FALL Weekly Players Awards (Week 3)
FBNYC, 10.21.09
Joe Kim (SLA) G/F | 5-11 | 175 lbs Week 3 Stats PPG: 25.0 RPG: 5.0 APG: 2.0
Kim again? For the 2nd week in a row, "Sonic" has dominated the 2nd half and pushed his team's undefeated record to 3-0. He's getting down with a mix of slashes, pull-ups, 3s and in transition. Basically, every which way but loose.
Runner-Up: Chris Moore (FAS) 18 pts, 7 rebs, 3 stls
This guy is popping up every- where and with good reason. He may be the most refined post player in the league right now and he's only played one game. You'll have to see it for yourself, and he's already got a nickname, "The Sentinel."
RU: Derrick Tyson (SWA) 16 pts, 9 rebs, 7 stls
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers
Drew Chen (SLA) 11 pts, 8 reb, 1 blk
Kim gets the headlines but Chen did all the little things to make sure Kim sealed the deal. His 8 rebs is just 2 shy of his career-high.
9 rebs, 7 stls and 2 blks and Tyson darn near had his team upsetting the NYC Fury in a game that went down to the final shot.
Runner-Up: Kirk Kim (SLA) 3 stls
The "High Five" Club James Lam (SWA) 7-3-3-3-1 Wilson Lew (QIK) 9-3-8-1-2 Dave Liu (SWA) 12-7-2-1-1 Bryant Picone (NYF) 10-10-1-1-1 Michael Thompson (QIK) 8-3-1-1-1 Derrick Tyson (SWA) 16-9-1-7-2
Discorama Rookie of the Week R. Dolar (NYF) game-winning 3FG
Dolar didn't put up a lot of numbers but he did a little bit of everything to help his team win, including hit the game-winner at the buzzer.
The "John Starks" Award Rob Toste (FAS) | 0-7 FGs (.000)
This is a long way from what should be one of the league's top shooters. PG duties will do that to you. Don't let anyone tell you it's easy.
Dishonorable Mention: J. Hsu (SWA) 0-6 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award Joe Kim (SLA) | 4-9 FTs (.444)
Slayers won but it took forever due to piss poor FT shooting in the 4th. But, guess what? It wasn't (C) Jiang Yu. It was your OCC Player of the Week.
Dishonorable Mention: The rest of the Slayers

Just throwing this out there to liven things up a little bit on this message board... stir the pot if you will.
I, Ren Hsieh, will not only attempt to top the league-high scoring record of 42 pts (set by... oh, right, Ren Hsieh) but go for 50 pts in this Sunday's upcoming game against rival Sex Panthers, which roster includes my brothers Liren Teng and Duke Hogwild.
Not only that, I will personally donate $2 to Thanksgiving food drives, Food Bank for New York City and New York City Rescue Mission, for every point I score against the Sex Panthers. So, there it is Sex Panthers... don't let the children go hungry on Thanksgiving.
