In a decisive win for the Connections, DBC (F) Chris Youn looks for a teammate under the basket as NYF defenders look on.
Connex solid against short-handed Fury
MLK HS, NYC --There is no question that the DB Connections are looking very strong right now. After a somewhat shaky start the Connex are right on track and this game against the 1st place Fury was supposed to be a test.
NYF, however, came with only a shell squad, with all five starters out due to either personal reasons or injury. New additions (G) Garrett James and (C) Ezra Hoover would certainly help but the Fury just didn't have enough big bodies to throw at the DBC front line, one without stand-out (F) Jin Hong.

DB Connections (3-2) vs. NYC Fury (4-0) | Thursday (8/5) 9:45pm @ MLK HS
KEY PLAYERS
Jin Hong 12.5 ppg 7.5 rpg 1.8 2pg 3.8 spg
Roger Redhead 26.0 ppg 6.0 rpg 3.0 apg 1.0 spg
ANALYSIS: After a rough start to the season at 0-2 in two losses that went all the way down to the wire, the Connections have not lost. Some of that credit goes to the addition of (G) Mike Kim who gives DBC a feisty defender, a key set up man and an extra gear in transition. There are few players faster in this league. Maybe none.
On the other hand, there are few teams as well-balanced all-around as the Fury. Every player on the roster can score 20 pts in any game and that depth will be put to the test as starters (F) Nic Echevestre, (G) Joe Kim, (G) Jake Choi and (C) Mo Ghumman will be unavailable.
X-FACTOR: As improved as their record has been, DBC has not played particularly well. When they look their best is when rookie (F) Jin Hong is aggressive on both ends. The entire NYF squad is an x-factor. Someone has to step up to account for 48 ppg and 29.2 rpg. -- Jeff Van Ghandi

Match-Up
(G) Mike Kim 5-10, 165 lbs
A
B
(G) Ren Hsieh 5-11, 165 lbs NYU
The guy is fast, Kim has explosive ability off the bounce and Hsieh will likely struggle with that. But, Hsieh was All-FBNYC last season for a reason, veteran play.
(G) Ace Watana 5-9, 160 lbs UCONN
B+
A
(G) Garrett James 6-1, 190 lbs Stanford University
Watanasuparp has struggled with his shooting touch but never quits on a play. He will pester NYF all game. Stevens is new to the league but not to the players. He will flourish.
(F) Chris Youn 6-1, 215 lbs
B+
A
(F) Roger Redhead 6-3, 205 lbs City Tech
Quietly, Youn has put together solid season as DBC's facilitator. If he's healthy, he'll do more of the same. Redhead opened the season with 26 pts on 7 3FGs. That's what he does.
(F) Tony Hu 6-3, 230 lbs
A
B+
(F) Varun Manocha 6-4, 215 lbs Cooper Union
Hu hasn't gone off yet this season so it could be said that the former MVP is due. Manocha is never playing out of position, the versatile forward can defend 1-5.
(C) Jin Hong 6-7, 190 lbs College of St. Rose
A
B
(C) Ezra Hoover 6-5, 195 lbs
Hong and Hoover are two of the league's most athletic players, especially in transition and this should be an fun match-up to watch.
BENCH (G) Mark Lee (G) Dan Kim (F) Ray Lee (F) Stan Grayson (C) Bryant Picone
A
B
BENCH (F) Kevin Forde
The DBC bench is deeper than before with the mid-season add of former Wesleyan (F) Stan Grayson. (C) Bryant Picone has been as tough in the defensive paint as ever off the pine. NYF has only athletic (F) Kevin Forde on tap, solid but gives little help to the backcourt.
In 4 gms before this one, the veteran Kamdang had scored only 16 pts combined. This one was a beaut. His teammates found him in position and he delivered, particularly down the stretch when the game was in jeopardy. Kamdang sealed it.
RU: Nick Harrington (MON) 25 pts, 13 rebs, 3 blks
Kevin Quach (MNK) G | 6-2 | 180 lbs Week 6 Stats PPG: 18.0 3FG: 6.0 RPG: 5.0
A couple of unlikely stars make the PoWs this week as Quach reps in the ORC. About time, really, he's certainly displayed the ability to put in this kind of work. Deadly from outside, the young forward helped put away ASN early on.
Runner-Up: Joe Vine (MNK) 10 pts, 13 rebs, 5 asts
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers
N. Harrington (MON) 14 rebs, 3 stls
The MonStars ask Harrington to do a lot, especially when (F) Rich Baptiste is out. And, he did pretty much just that but fell short of the W.
Runner-Up: Brian Nilsen (ASN) 10 rebs, 3 blks
Defensive Player of the Week
Jin Hong (DBC) 6 rebs, 1 stl, 8 blks
When you can get him on both sides of the ball Hong is dangerous but the kid always plays defense. 8 blocks is nuts. You'd think BOI would learn.
RU: Nick Harrington (MON) 14 rebs, 3 stls, 3 rebs
The High-5 Club Nick Harrington (MON) 25-13-3-3-3 Jin Hong (DBC) 9-6-1-1-8 Len Kamdang (AOD) 21-5-2-1-1 Anthony Nurse (BOI) 12-3-1-2-1 Ram Parekh (BOI) 12-5-2-1-1 Joe Vine (MNK) 10-13-5-2-1
Discorama Rookie of the Week Joe Vines (MNK) 10 pts, 13 reb, 5 ast
This may be Vine's first season but he's no rookie to the scene. Vine put his versatile game to work in a blow out win over the Asphalt Ninjas.
Runner-Up: Brian Nilsen (ASN) 14 pts, 10 reb, 3 blk
The "John Starks" Award B. Womack (ASN) | 5-17 FGs (.294)
That's a lot of shots. Womack had 2 solid games under his belt so a little letdown is to be expected. We don't predict many more like this.
Dishonorable Mention: A. Singleton (ASN) 0-7 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award
Joe Vine (MNK) | 2-6 FTs (.333)
As well as Vine played, he didn't hit FTs. But, in a 30-pt blowout win, who really cares? Give it a couple of days, no one will ever remember. Dishonorable Mention: R. Stovall (BOI) 0-3 FTs

MLK HS, NYC -- Everyone in the league knows ASN captain (G) Wilson Lew puts together formidable teams, especially ones that like to run and gun. So seeing them get handled the way they did against MNK was very surprising.
