2K10 SUM Weekly Awards (Week 4)FBNYC, 7.13.10
U. Nausrude. (AOD)
G | 5-11 | 165 lbs
Week 3 Stats
PPG: 27.0
APG: 2.0
SPG: 1.0

Nausrudeen has been shooting lights out from the perimeter but his added ability to finish around the rim this season has paid big dividends. "Nas" has been huge in both games but in this he helped lift his team to their first win of the season.

Runner-Up: Tony Hu (DBC) 16 pts, 14 rebs, 4 asts
N. Echevestre (NYF)
F | 6-4 | 205 lbs
Week 3 Stats
PPG: 30.0
RPG: 10.0
APG: 7.0

Playing 4 on 5 for half a game and all the Fury needed was Mr. MVP himself, Nic Echevestre. His 30 pts marked a career high and we admit we were a little surprised at that. There should be plenty where that came from up ahead.

Runner-Up: Nick Mui (MNK) 30 pts, 6 rebs, 6 asts
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Aaron Fisher (AOD) 10 rebs, 3 stls

Get used to this mug. No one plays harder and hit the deck as often as Fisher. His ability to find 2nd chance points helped put away DBC.

Runnder-Up: Varun Manocha (NYF) 11 rebs, 1 stl
Defensive Player of the Week

B. Picone (DBC) 9 rebs, 2 stls, 4 blks

He's not a two-time Defensive MVP for nothing. Despite the loss, Picone helped keep it close by making it hard for AOD to score in the paint.

Runner-Up: Nic Echevestre (NYF) 10 rebs, 4 blks
The High-5 Club

Josh Ellison (AOD) 4-3-1-1-1
Bryant Picone (NYF) 4-9-3-2-4
Joe Vine (MNK) 12-6-2-2-1
Chris Youn (DBC) 7-5-2-1-1

Discorama Rookie of the Week

Kareem J (BOI) 21 pts, 10 rebs

When we get his full name from the BOI captain, we'll know what to really call him. When we do, don't forget the name. 'Reem did work.

Runner-Up: Jake Choi (NYF) 17 pts, 8 rebs, 6 asts
The "John Starks" Award

R. Baptiste (MON) | 3-13 FGs (.231)

Baptiste so thoroughly dominated his first game this was a big surprise. He looked tired, but this isn't the only league he's playing in.

Dishonorable Mention: M. Lee (DBC) 3-13 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

Anthony Plunkett (MON) | 0-4 (.000)

Plunkett is a guard, not particularly a shooter, but this still isn't pretty. He's made only 7 of his 14 attempts all season, none in this one.

Dishonorable Mention: Aaron Fisher (AOD) 1-4 FTs

FBNYC Game of the Week

Postgame, Fury (F) Varun Manocha and (G) Jake Choi unwind with 6-9 Spanish pro (C) Nacho Martin on loan with NYF until August.
Short-handed Fury topple short Kings

MLK HS, NYC -- The Monkey Kings showed up short-handed with just six players including new addition (F) Joe Vine, a big but versatile forward that looked to complement (G) Nick Mui, having perhaps his strongest season yet. But, the Fury came up even shorter, starting the game with only 4 players.

Somehow, (G) Ren Hsieh, (G) Jake Choi, (F) Varun Manocha and (F) Nic Echevestre would be enough. (G) Roman Perez and new Fury addition 6-9 Spanish pro (C) Nacho Martin on loan to NYF never made it to the game in a misunderstanding about the tip-off time and (G) Joe Kim ended up at the Chinatown YMCA.

ANALYSIS: When captain (G) Ren Hsieh said he wanted to build himself a championship team this season, he wasn't kidding. Top to bottom, the entire team, besides (G) Jake Choi who's logged only 2 career gms, is former FBNYC All-Stars. They're led by 2K10 SPR MVP (F) Nic Echevestre, the former UCSC forward is having one of his best years, having already led the Fury to a chip at the Chinatown Y league, averaging over 30 ppg and currently leading NYF in the Lower Manhattan Classic.

The Kings, by contrast, have fielded only limited players so far but it's a short list of rising stars. (G) Nick Mui continues to be one of the fastest players in any league he plays in and (G) Mike Chan, (F) James Li and (F) Kevin Quach are growing in the impact they bring to every game. Which is to say, they are good and best of all, very efficient. Captain (F) George Chan has promised they will have legit big men on the roster but as of yet, none have appeared.

It's going to take time to get relative ratings with the change in talent level but Choi was en route to All-Star status last season before injury. Mui was also until he hit a slump, they are two of the fastest in the league.

(G) Joe Kim

Chan proved to be a solid scorer and defender last season with surprising footwork. Kim is a one-time MVP who can do it all but specializes in defense when needed.

(F) Nic Echevestre

A proven versatile scorer and defender, Li is verging on a dominant breakout season. He should watch Echevestre, last season's MVP. No one is better all-around until proven otherwise.
(F) Kevin Quach
6-2, 180 lbs

(F) Roger Redhead
6-3, 215 lbs
City Tech

Quach is another versatile guy on MNK's small but athletic line-up, as Quach has bulked up, he's relied more on his 3FG. Ditto for Redhead, as his seven 3FGs in Wk 1 showed, he's an uncanny shooter from the forward position.

(F) Mo Ghumman

What Chan brings doesn't come up on the stat sheet, he flat out plays hard and always brings the pain. Ghumman has slowed with age but is still one of the best undersized centers around.

BENCH

Redhead and Ghumman may miss the game but the Fury bench is very solid with 2K10 SPR All-FBNYC (G) Ren Hsieh and Dominican pro (G) Roman Perez back on loan. MNK's bench has yet to be revealed in its entirety.

2K10 SUM Weekly Player Awards (Week 1 & 2)FBNYC, 7.5.10
Rich Baptiste (MON)
F | 6-5 | 215 lbs
Week 1 & 2 Stats
PPG: 28.0
RPG: 7.0
BPG: 4.0

This one was easy. There was no one who dominated his game more than Baptiste did. He didn't just do it scoring the ball, but he also hustled back on defense throwing away any easy attempt that his opponents thought they had.

RU: U. Nasrudeen (AOD) 28 pts, 11 rebs, 4 asts
R. Redhead (NYF)
F | 6-3 | 215 lbs
Week 1 & 2 Stats
PPG: 26.0
RPG: 6.0
APG: 3.0

This might the quietest Player of the Week in FBNYC history. At one point, Redhead actually thought he wasn't shooting well missing a two shots in a row.  Those were just two of three total misses for the game as Redhead led the Fury to a win.

Runner-Up: Nick Mui (MNK) 24 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

U. Nausrudeen (AOD) 28 pts, 11 rebs

He makes it look effortless but 11 rebs for a 5-10 guard in the BLUE is no small feat. On top of his 28 pts, that's a lot of ground he's covering.

RU: Anthony Plunkett (MON) 23 pts, 5 rebs, 3 stls
Defensive Player of the Week

Rich Baptiste (MON) 4 blks, 3 stls

In a game where every single bucket counted, Baptiste turned back more than his share. The versatile forward got it done on both sides of the ball.

Runner-Up: Joe Kim (NYF) 7 rebs, 4 stls, 1 blk
The High-5 Club

Joe Kim (NYF) 4-7-6-4-1
Nic Echevestre (NYF) 21-4-4-1-1
Kevin Quach (MNK) 14-6-4-2-1
Rich Baptiste (MON) 28-7-2-3-4
Nick Harrington (MON) 25-12-1-4-1
Aaron Fisher (AOD) 15-9-2-1-2
Jon Scheiman (AOD) 11-4-8-2-1
Michael Oppenheimer (AOD) 2-3-1-1-1
Discorama Rookie of the Week

N. Harrington (MON) 25 pts, 12 reb

Baptiste takes PoW so we're giving the RoW to teammate, Harrington, who put in work to bring in their first win. 25 pts, 12 rebs, not too shabby.

RU: Anthony Plunkett (MON) 23 pts, 5 rebs, 3 stls
The "John Starks" Award

Ace Watana. (DBC) | 1-8 FGs (.125)

A rough start for the veteran guard, the game was too close for this many misses. A make here or there could have changed the entire game.

Dishonorable Mention: B. Grant
(MON) 3-11 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

None worth mentioning... and that's why this is the BLUE league.
