FBNYC News: Former MVP Marshall Cho on ESPNFBNYC, 4.23.08
FBNYC News: Marshall "Moz" Cho featured in ESPN Page 2

Due to the unexpected bye week there's been little to post on the site but from time to time we get to hear from former "A" league MVP Marshall Cho all the way from Mozambique, Africa where he does outreach work for Hoops 4 Hope, a global not-for-profit organization that aids youth development throughout southern Africa by providing more than 10,000 school-age children with their Basketball/Life Skills program. Click the link for more info.

Anytime we hear from Marshall, it's usually a pen-worthy occasion and this time is no different. The original face and logo of FBNYC is spotlighted in a Kevin Carroll story on ESPN Page 2. Click here to check it out. -- FBNYC

Ageless Kagitomi lifts Dreamleague East to 1st FBNYC title

Forward Yoshi Kagitomi put the finishing touches on a total team effort for the Dreamers

MLK HS -- In a throwback to the early days of Fastbreak NYC, and to accommodate a smaller than usual number of teams in the playoffs, the Commish greenlit FBNYC's last team standing style post-season where it all happens in one day. The best shall stand. The rest shall fall. And on this day, Dreamleague East proved to be the best in FB. -- FBNYC
FBNYC 2K7 FALL "A" Championship MVP

34-year-old veteran (F) Yoshi Kagitomi took over for the Dreamers when it counted most, converting on DLE's last 4 FGs including a breakaway dunk to ice the finish.

INSIDE THE STATS

After shooting a red-hot 58% in their 1st round match-up with TCB, the Dreamers managed only 39% in the Chip. Credit that to FBE's athletic and swarming defense. The Blue, however, shot only 28% from the field. That, too can be credited to DLE's equally stifling defenders.

Despite reaching the line 28 times to DLE's 13, the Fury Blue could only convert on 68% of their freebies. Compare that to DLE's 85% shooting from the charity stripe.
CHARLES BOK LEE'S ANALYSIS

It was a helluva game. After shocking the 2nd seed NYC Fury Black, the Fury Blue came into the Chip riding high and winning 5 out of their last 6 games. Despite coming out a little sluggish, likely a victim of the 2-hr layoff, give the Blue a little credit. They fought back after giving up a 14-pt lead. But in the end, the shots just weren't falling and DLE's shots were.

The Dreamers' backcourt was deadly from the perimeter, and just the same the shots from FBE weren't falling. The energy that (G) James Choi was popping with in the opening round just didn't carry over to the second.

Backcourt mate (G) Fellipe Alfonso did his best to carry the struggling squad but after 5-9 behind the arc vs. FBK, he couldn't find the net on any of his 6 attempts. In the end, it was all (F) Yoshi Kagitomi. Despite FBE's suffocating defense, they decided to leave him in single coverage. Yoshi came through huge, and that's why he's the MVP of the Chip. -- C.B. Lee

KENNY "THE JET" LI'S ANALYSIS

Not gonna say much that Charles hasn't already, except to add that aside from Yoshi's late 2nd half heroics, the DLE back-court was killing it. After nearly racking up a triple-double in their 1st rd matchup with The Clockblockers, (G) Usama Nasrudeen followed it up with an assortment of long-range daggers (4-7 3FGs) that helped put the Dreamers up early and seal the deal late.

His backcourt mate, (G) Bang Takenouchi was equally an impact. Stifling FBE's Choi on defense and tallying 6 assists, none more memorable than the between the legs bounce to a streaking Kagitomi for the photo finish. In all, it was a team effort, whether it was (F) Wilson Wang's clutch 3-pointer, (G) Vince Sutherland's hustle or (F) Brian Yang and (C) Len Kamdang's timely offensive boards, the Dreamers had all the bases covered. --

Takenouchi made it look easy this season. Mixin' a flair for the razzle with a big game jumpshot, DLE is just fine with him at the helm.

Despite their team's inability to win a game this season, Yu kept his Clockers squad in most of them with his ability to score in bunches. With TCB often short-handed and gunner Mark Yiin MIA, "Butter" often found himself the only option.

Bang makes this game look easy sometimes. A penchant for timely 3FGs, flashy dimes and a rough crossover dribble, Bang is making a name for himself in his rookie FBNYC season. Now, he's helped lift his DL East team to the playoff's no. 1 seed.
