2K10 SPR Playoff Preview (First Round)FBNYC, 4.29.10
FIRST ROUND
(4) NYC Fury vs. (5) Audacity of Dope | Saturday (5/1) 1:15pm @ MLK HS

KEY PLAYERS
B. Picone
8.2 ppg
10.8 rpg
2.1 bpg
N. Mui
12.8 ppg
4.3 rpg
2.5 apg
ANALYSIS: The Fury have struggled, losing their last 3 games in a row but the Dope have lost two straight as well. Both are playing without key players in the line-up, MVP caliber players, with the Fury losing (G) Joe Kim with a knee injury and AOD most likely missing (F) Yoshi Kagitomi who you might as well call the Jackalope. But, both still have plenty of tools to make a decent playoff run, if they can get it together. The Fury was pretty much in this same situation last season and they won it all.

X-FACTOR: NYF (G) Rommel Dolar and (G) Alex Cho will get their looks but the key for NYF will be (G) James Choi. If he is making shots and defending well, he gives the Fury that much more of an edge. He is certainly capable. AOD needs someone to make some 3FGs. If (G) Jason Chin is on, they have a real chance of winning. -- The Jet

Advantage
(G) James Choi

B

(G) Jason Chin

Choi is undersized but has decent speed, and is aggressive on offense. Chin has struggled with his shot, but if he catches on, look out.
(G) Rommel Dolar

A

A

(G) Nick Mui

The quick and dead, Dolar has the best handle in the league right now and Mui is the fastest in the open court. This should get interesting.
(G) Alex Cho

A

B

(G) Andrew Hara

Both teams have 3-guard line-ups. Cho has cooled a bit since his red-hot start but is still capable. Hara looked solid at the tin last week.
(F) Rich Chang

B+

A

(F) Aaron Fisher

Chang has been a great complement to Picone but must limit his TOs. Fisher is the best PF in the league right now. Just gets it done.
(C) Bryant Picone

A

B+

(C) Len Kamdang

Defense is the name of Picone's game and if he can score, it's a bonus for NYF. Kamdang is a bit opposite and brings a versatile game.
BENCH

Both benches have thinned since injuries and scheduling conflicts have struck but AOD gets the slight edge with more depth.

KEY PLAYERS
G. Chan
13.2 ppg 6.8 rpg
1.0 bpg

M. Chan
12.9 ppg
6.6 rpg
2.1 spg
ANALYSIS: The Hypebeasts have to be a little upset they didn't finish with at least the no. 2 seed. It was that close. But, now they face a CRB team that has not won yet this season. For all intents in purposes, this should be a cakewalk for HYP but in a single-elimination playoffs, you never know. (G) Ian Yu's crew was an early exit last season, too, and there is some significant team turmoil on hand. Plus, CRB (F) Mike Chan is red-hot right now, which gives the Crossbearers some hope.

X-FACTOR: HYP (F) Jason Wu has been there best addition so far this season. His all-around play and composure has been a calming factor for the often distracted Hypebeasts. He can do it all, and has been. The Crossbearers need one of their guards to have a big game. In their last game it was (G) Kwok Ng and they had a chance. -- The Jet

B

(G) Dave Zheng

Yu has struggled with his offense but is still a strong playmaker. Zheng has been quiet but has all the tools to be a strong PG.
(G) Sam Jenkins

A

B

(G) David Li

Jenkins is always capable of hitting 3 or 4 3FGs in a row. CRB will have to stay on him. Li is an intangibles guy, hustles non stop.
(F) Mamadou Hanne

B+

A

(F) Mike Chan

Hanne has been a top defender all season which will be a challenge for Chan, who uses his size rather than speed to score.
(F) George Chan

A

A

(F) James Li

Chan is much bigger than Li but slower. Li, one of the best athletes around, will have to take advantage against the stronger Chan.
(C) Howard Chu

B+

B

(C) Danny Lung

Chu has been asserting himself lately and at his side, that's no picnic. Lung is athletic and goes hard but is undersized.
BENCH

BENCH

Both teams have plenty of depth but HYP brings more size to the table and a dynamic player like Wu.

2K10 SPR Week 10 Player AwardsFBNYC, 4.28.10
N. Echevestre (FAS)
F | 6-4 | 200 lbs
Week 10 Stats
PPG: 17.0
RPG: 8.0
BPG: 2.0

Nic-E has been laying back in the cut and letting teammate (F) Nick Watson get all the attention, especially on D. Now, he's crept up like a ninja and killing them. Softly, of course, the "other" Nic is putting up another MVP caliber season.

Runner-Up: L. Kamdang (AOD) 22 pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk
Ezra Hoover (QIK)
C | 6-5 | 190 lbs
Week 10 Stats
PPG: 17.0
RPG: 6.0
BPG: 2.0

For the first time this season, Hoover played with that extra bounce in his step that makes him one of the league's best athletes. Big, big ups go to (G) Wilson Lew  and (G) Ren Hsieh who combined for 32 pts, 10 asts to help him get settled in.

Runner-Up: Ren Hsieh (QIK) 15 pts, 10 asts, 1 blk
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

R. Hsieh (QIK) 15 pts, 10 asts, 1 blk

Let's give it up for the to PGs with double-digit assists. It takes a lot of work to keep everyone that happy. And, Commish got a block? What?

Runner-Up: Roman Perez (FAS) 16 pts, 11 asts
Defensive Player of the Week

N. Echevestre (FAS) 8.0 rpg, 2.0 spg, 2.0 bpg

We don't usually like to double up on the awards but damn if the kid wasn't everywhere last weekend.

Runner-Up: B. Womack (QIK) 2 rebs, 4 stls, 1 blk

Leuis Ng (FAS) 8.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg

In the first game he couldn't miss a shot, in the second, his nose was attached to the ball on the offensive boards. Solid two outings.

Ng is averaging 6.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 1.2 apg.

Runner-Up: Roman Perez (FAS) 12.5 ppg, 7.5 apg
The "John Starks" Award

Nick Watson (FAS) | 4-16 FG (.250)

Watson ended up with 16 pts and the dagger from deep but 4-16 FGs just ain't pretty. Good thing the win keeps them looking good.

Dishonorable Mention: V. Southerland (AOD) 0-7 FG

The "Chris Dudley" Award

Aaron Fisher (AOD) | 0-4 (.000)

Fisher has had good FT shooting days and bad. This was one of the bad ones in a game which they could have used them. Damn shame.

FBNYC Game of the Week

HYP players look on as FAS (F) Nick Watson throws it down off the vertical after spinning his defender off in the paint.
Echevestre huge yet again as Agents escape Beasts

MLK HS, NYC -- There was a noticeable buzz in the gym leading up to the Hypebeasts-Agents rematch on Sunday. This was for outright 1st place in the OCC, but also for bragging rights. Both teams have been among the hottest in the league in the 2nd half of the season and looking to establish themselves heading into the playoffs.

Perhaps not so surprisingly, there was just as much stirring in the bleachers, as a more than usual amount fans came out to see arguably the biggest regular season game this year, fans who including Antonio Gil, Editor-in-Chief of Spain's Crossover magazine, who came out to support (more...)

George Chan (HYP)
F | 6-5 | 225 lbs
Week 9 Stats
PPG: 21.0
RPG: 9.0
BPG: 1.0

Chan has been due for a break out game and the Hypebeasts got just what they needed in an otherwise lackluster effort vs. AOD, a game which the Dope controlled well into the 2nd half. That is until Chan took over in the 4th qtr.

Runner-Up: Nick Watson (FAS) 18 pts, 9 reb, 5 ast
Dave Wong (QIK)
G | 5-10 | 155 lbs
Week 9 Stats
PPG: 22.0
RPG: 12.0
SPG: 2.0

Wong recorded his first career double-double and a personal best 12 rebs by relentlessly attacking an undersized and undermanned CRB squad. The veteran guard can still fill it up, increasing his point total in every game this season.

Runner-Up: Mike Chan (CRB) 29 pts, 15 rebs, 3 asts
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Rob Toste (FAS) 6 rebs, 3 asts, 1 blk

In his first game in almost 2 months, Toste was flying all over the court, attacking the basket, grabbing rebs and blocking NYF's last ditch effort.

RU: Aaron Fisher (AOD) 12 pts, 12 rebs, 2 stls
Defensive Player of the Week

B. Picone (NYF) 14 rebs, 3 stls, 1 blk

Picone did everything necessary to secure a W for NYF but just fell short. With key players out, Picone was the focal point, and he came through.

Runner-Up: Ian Yu (HYP) 5 rebs, 3 stls
The High-5 Club

Joel Capili (QIK) 6-10-1-1-2
Mike Chan (CRB) 29-15-3-2-1
Winston Chiu (CRB) 4-4-1-1-3
Bryant Picone (NYF) 18-14-2-3-1
Kenneth Van (QIK) 4-2-2-1-1
Ace Watanasuparp (QIK) 13-2-6-1-1
Nick Watson (FAS) 18-9-5-1-1

Discorama Rookie of the Week

M. Chan (CRB) 29 pts, 15 reb, 3 ast

You name it, Chan did it in a valiant effort against QIK. The Crossbearers were short and short-handed but Chan made it a game throughout.

RU: Aaron Fisher (AOD) 12 pts, 12 rebs, 2 stls
The "John Starks" Award

Jason Chin (AOD) | 1-11 FG (.091)

For one reason or another, Chin just hasn't found the stroke consistently this season. This is a high quality PG struggling mightily with his offense.

Dishonorable Mention: B. Goldstein (AOD) 1-10
FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

Bryant Picone (NYF) | 6-13 FTs (.462)

The saddest part is, as well as he played in this game, had he just made 4 more FTs, FAS would never have had the chance to comeback.

Dishonorable Mention: Nick Watson (FAS) 3-6 FTs
