MLK HS, NYC -- With both the Crossbearers and the NYC Quicks fielding only shell squads after a marathon tournament in New Jersey on Saturday, the only thing certain about this rare Sunday match-up in the BLUE league was that it would be unpredictable.
QIK did have old standbys (G) Ren Hsieh, (G) Wilson Lew and (G) Dave Wong, along with (F) Kenneth Van and (F) Shaun Young. (G) Ace Watanasuparp, who will be joining QIK in the Chinese Nationals in Toronto. also made an appearance. ANALYSIS: It feels like a lull in the season after such a long layoff, especially after such a classic game between NYF and FAS two weeks ago. They'll be playing again this week in a sort of rubber match but Game of the Week will see the 0-7 NY Crossbearers take on the NYC Quicks. Can the CRB get their first win in their last game of the regular season? This just feels like one of those weeks that anything could happen.
X-FACTOR: The Quicks will be without recent addition (G) Jake Choi and (G) Wilson Lew and (G) Ren Hsieh are coming off a 3-day war of attrition at the Salman Memorial IPNBT. For their old knees, that means possible let down. (C) Ezra Hoover will have to step up. If he can dominate the smaller Crossbearers, QIK should be fine. The United States and England meet today for one of the World Cup's most anticipated match-ups, 60 years in the making.
The Americans are ranked 14th, while England ranks eighth. But the underdogs say they are ready for a victory that is long overdue, says CBS news correspondent Mark Phillips.
Everybody's optimistic at the beginning of a tournament, especially England fans about to play the U.S. in what the rest of the world calls "football."
"It's the round one, not the funny-shaped one" says one enthusiast.
The English team is being sent into battle with encouragement from British troops in Afghanistan.
"Just like you, we have to hit the target under pressure," said one soldier.
They're being urged on by prime ministers: "Come on, England!" said David Cameron.
But the U.S. team has presidential approval: "Everybody's going to be rooting for you," said Mr. Obama.
And Team USA has something else on its side: History.
In the 1950 World Cup, before the age of the soccer mom, the U.S. met England as even bigger underdogs.
"We were 500-1 odds to win," said Walter Bahr, who was team captain then.
A funny thing happened: Final score, U.S. 1, England 0. And the current American team thinks this underdog thing can work for them again.
"I've been, I suppose, misfortunate enough to play against all those guys and they're all great players" said USA's Jay Demerit.
So here's Walter Bahr's advice: "The best team doesn't always win."
That's why they play the games.

There are only like 3 people that should be that should be on this list a lot of people got over looked for ian who's playing like trash look at his numbers. For this to be the so called elite league there is a lot of not elite numbers up here for the all star ballot. But hey that's just my opinion.

jake choi is serious business sorry to hear about his knee. sucks. but anyways perez should definetly be on the team. surely has the experience and knows how to win games. also jenkin is a great shooter. hopefully they will make it. i was going for jenkin and jake. but jenkin and perez sounds good to me.

The ballots are posted with a closing date of April 30. This will give people a chance to continue voting along the way as players finish out the season. Even if it has to be at a different computer.
The assumption was that Jake would have 3 gms played by that time, then it would have been tough to leave him off. But unfortunately, with what appears to be a serious knee injury suffered in the DC tournament, the point may be moot.

Who's being defensive? You realize that ironically, you just posted a defensive statement? I'm not defending anything, I'm just saying it doesn't really make a difference. And, maybe it was just to fill out the ballot.
You, on the other hand, are defending your statement... perhaps irrationally and heretofore defensively. I could care less about the ballot, I play in this league for fun.
