Summer 2014 Premier Division Power Rankings - Week 6
Rank Team Record
Team Notes
1. (=)

MBX

(4-0)

MediaBrix played only one game during this stretch, but it was their first real test. What they proved is they can make mistakes, and still recover to win in crunch time. This is a talented team with resolve. A dangerous combination.
2. (+1)

BBR

(3-1)

Basketball Reasons also played but one game in the past two weeks, and it was a thorough dismantling of defending champions FBN. (F) Will Johnson & (G) Zack Simmons are as good as ever, but perhaps the key difference has been the improved play of (G) Mike Salerno at the point.
3. (+3)

GOA

(3-2)

Not a hands-down no. 3, but the Herders do have all the pieces. (F) Seamus McKiernan has put up big numbers all season and if GOA's shots are falling from the perimeter, they're as good as any of the Top 4. The real question is whether (F) Perun Kovacevic is joining full time. If so, they can win it all.
4. (=)

SEA

(3-2)

Not exactly a shoe-in at this spot either, the Dribbling Seamen are about as inconsistent a team as you can get. Much like GOA, when they're hitting 3FGs they are tough to beat. (G) Jordan Tripp sure would have been nice.
5. (-2)

FBN

(2-3)

This is the most talented roster that the two-time defending champions have had yet. But, somehow it just hasn't clicked for them this season. Call it championship hangover or whatever you want, FBN has to get it together right now or their in danger of missing the playoffs altogether.
6. (+3)

TOP

(2-3)

With a couple of very able-bodied subs, the Top Stars were able to pick up two straight impressive wins. Unfortunately, rumor has it that both are going back to school now, and will not be able to finish the season. With (G) Max Masucci also out with injury, where do they turn now?
7. (-2)

AXA

(2-2)

This team is just about as inconsistent as SEA, just a whole lot older. At their best, AXA is a team that can compete with anyone, particularly if they can get (G) Sam Deadwyler & (F) Stedford McCloud clicking at the same time.
8. (=)

MON

(2-2)

They have won two straight now with a revamped front-line including former Championship MVP (C) Chris Lemoine. But, they haven't beaten a contender yet. If and when (F) Kaylen Gregory returns, this team could make a move.
9. (-2)

REN

(2-3)

They put up their best effort of the season against MBX, but they couldn't get the win. Then a blowout loss to MON has made playoffs a difficult situation. They have the talent, and (G) Ian Yu is capable of some miracles. They just need to squeeze into the playoffs. There, anything can happen.
10. (=)

FAS

(0-5)

The goal for the Agents this season is to get a win. (F) Ezra Hoover and (C) Bryant Picone have been solid adds, but Hoover is moving on. They have played well in stretches, they have two more chances put it all together.
Observations... if Will Johnson doesn't MVP this season... Buzz & Woody are killing this season... four players have efficiency ratings of 30 or more so far... that's bonkers... four teams have two players in the Top 10 in scoring... also ridiculous... Ezra Hoover has become a 3-pt shooter... Duke Stanojevich aka "Hondo"... it ain't pretty, but it's streaky... big shout out to Roger Redhead for his generous contributions over the years to Fastbreak NYC and the Dynasty Project... thanks Roger Rabbit!

The
Skidmore big man was only filling in for the Herders, but if he joined the full-time roster? Watch out. Kovacevic is a house in the paint, and he has a deft touch from the perimeter.

Runner-Up: Will Johnson (BBR) 23 pts, 11 reb, 2 ast
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Hans Medard (MON) 23 reb, 3 stl

Medard is actually an undersized (C) in this division, but he puts in work every game with great positioning, and physical play in the paint.

Runner-Up: Will Haile (FBN) 19 reb, 1 stl, 2 blk
Wat Misaka Defensive Player of the Week

Jordan Tripp (SEA) 10 reb, 3stl, 2blk

Filling in for a short-handed Seaman roster, Tripp gave a taste of what he could have done had he joined the team full time this season.

D. Stanojevic (GOA) 22 pts, 6 3FGs

Technically a rookie, the younger of the Stanojevic brothers got red hot from 3 early on, and helped his GOA team beat defending champs FBN.

R-Up: Dennis Levene (TOP) 16 pts, 16 reb, 4 ast

The "John Starks" Award

Nick Cafiero (MON) | 3-13 FGs (.231)

Cafiero certainly looks like a shooter. He's got textbook form and doesn't hesitate to pull the trigger. The shots just aren't falling. MON won anyway.

Dishonorable Mention: E. St. Hilaire (REN) 3-12 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

Ian Yu (REN) | 4-9 FTs (.444)

The veteran guard has his good days and bad from the FT line. This was one of the bad ones, but it might not have mattered in this blowout loss.

Dishonorable Mention: Jon Radke (MON) 9-16 FTs

Stars haven't won much so you might not know they have a gunner named Keegan Pieri. He's 2nd in scoring behind Will Johnson, and he just hit the game-winner in TOP's first win.

Runner-Up: Will Johnson (BBR) 23 pts, 11 reb, 2 ast
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Brandon Hines (MBX) 13 reb, 1 blk

Hines has always been a very solid rebounder from the guard position, but he posted a career-high in Week 5 in a narrow comeback win.

Runner-Up: Pete Tsevdos (SEA) 13 reb, 4 stl, 1
Wat Misaka Defensive Player of the Week

Askia Davis (MBX) 16 reb, 1 stl, 8 blk

In MediaBrix's first real challenge this season, they needed Davis to protect the rim. His defense in the paint was key to their comeback win.

Runner-Up: Keegan Pieri (TOP) 14 reb, 2 stl, 4 blk
The High-5 Club

S. McKiernan (GOA) 26 pts, 16 reb

Another big night in the box score for the GOA big man. This was a rout by the 2nd half, but McKiernan gets the nod for a strong all-around effort.

R-Up: Milan Prodanovic (GOA) 25 pts, 4 ast, 4 stl

The "John Starks" Award

N. Martinez (FAS) | 1-13 FGs (.077)

This was maybe the first game that the Renegades looked like a team to beat. And, Martinez didn't shoot well. They needed him in this one.

Dishonorable Mention: Isiaih Reed (REN) 2-14 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

Nicki Athann. (SEA) | 1-5 FTs (.200)

Seamen had way too many chances to win this game, and these missed FTs didn't help. This was bad loss on all accounts.

Dishonorable Mention: G. Lawrence (REN) 0-4 FTs
