2K9 FALL Top 10 Plays of Week 6FBNYC, 11.13.09

Salvaged. The entire project nearly eschewed in light of Dwyane Wade's magnum opus of thundering funk. If that is art, we are no artists. If that's basketball, this is tiddley-winks. But, the Hypebeasts cometh. And, faith is restored. Top 10 or ode to C-Wonder? Depends who you ask. Four stars.

2K9 FALL Weekly Player Awards (Week 6)FBNYC, 11.12.09
Ian Yu (HYP)
G | 5-10 | 155 lbs
Week 6 Stats
PPG: 14.0
RPG: 6.0
APG: 5.5

In HYP's two Wk 6 wins, it was "C-Wonder" who put his stamp all over the court. Offense, defense, no one in the league is moving as fast and as fluidly in the open court as Yu right now. And, he's making his teammates better, too.

RU: Chris Moore (FAS) 12 pts, 10 rebs, GW FG
Amin Gillespie (SWA)
F | 6-3 | 225 lbs
Week 6 Stats
PPG: 14.0
RPG: 7.0
APG: 5.0

Gillespie has been the quieter part of SWA's impressive front court but his all-around game and hard-nosed defense were on full display in SWA's win over the Slayers. Gillespie kept his team ahead by scoring 6 of his 14 pts late in the 4th.

Runner-Up: Kirby Shaw (QIK) 23 pts, 4 rebs
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Len Kamdang (AOD) 11 rebs, 3 stls

In his best career game, Kamdang was everywhere he needed to be and one of the few bright spots of AOD's last-second loss to FAS.

RU: Dooley Watts (FAS) 11 pts, 9 rebs, 1 blk
Defensive Player(s) of the Week

Hypebeasts .347 FGA%, 9.5 spg

HYP's trapping defense just looked intimidating. It's gonna take patient, physical guards to break that press. PTS off TOs is HYP's new motto.

Runner-Up: Derrick Tyson (SWA) 3 rebs, 6 stls
The "High Five" Club

Bryant Picone (NYF) 1-11-2-1-2
Shaun Young (QIK) 6-1-4-1-1

Discorama Rookie of the Week

Chris Moore (FAS) 12 pts, 10 rebs, 4 asts

RU: Kirby Shaw (QIK) 23 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts
The "John Starks" Award

Jon Giacobbe (NYF) | 4-19 FGs (.211)

Just one game ago he set a season franchise-high with 24 pts. What a difference two weeks makes. He had good looks, they just didn't go in.

Dishonorable Mention: NYC Fury (NYF) 13-54 FGs

The "Chris Dudley" Award

Leon Chu (HYP) | 3-11 FTs (.273)

In two games, Chu is already starting to challenge SLA (C) Jiang Yu as the greatest "Dud" of all time. This is a guard we're talking about.

Dishonorable Mention: HYP (vs. QIK) 8-22 FTs

FBNYC Game of the Week

FAS (C) Mike Song draws a foul on one of his many first quarter drives to the basket.
Agents pull out first win on Moore's buzzer-beater

MLK HS, NYC -- This week's Game of the Week wasn't a marquee match-up. In fact, neither team had won in their last four tries but one of these teams was about to break their losing streak and it was going down to the wire.

AOD returned (G) Usama Nausrudeen to the line-up after a previously scheduled workout with the ABA was rescheduled. FAS returned (G) Ren Hsieh after a shaky debut. FAS also added rookie (F) Dooley Watts in place of (F) Rob Toste (out 2 wks). (F) Malik Taylor would also be out along with AOD (G) Andrew Hara still (more...)

2K9 FALL Mid-Season ReviewFBNYC, 11.5.09
Mid-Season Review: New and improved Quicks reign

QIK additions make them the mid-season's top team

When QIK added (F) Vic Chia for bulk and (G) Jason Chin and (G) Ken Van to stabilize their backcourt, they bolstered a line-up that already made it to the Chip in 2K9 SPR. Then came versatile bigs (F) Michael Thompson, (F) Alex Stewart and (C) Pat Pilar and just like that, the Quicks were the deepest team in the league.

But, not necessarily by that much. The Slayers may quietly be the league's most balanced team with a focus on defense and the Fury have plenty of firepower to go around. Both could just as easily finish the season at the no. 1 spot.

As for the rest of the league, no one's satisfied with being on the outside looking in. Teams have made key additions for the stretch run but the dark horse here is (G) Ian Yu's Hypebeasts team. They are young, but they have an awful lot of talent. Check your report card! -- Kenny "The Jet" Li

1.

QIK

(4-1)

As soon as (C) Ezra Hoover stepped on the floor, the culture changed for QIK. They were now big without losing speed. Looks like there's still some kinks to work out in the rotation but if anyone can get it done, it's veteran captain (G) Wilson Lew.

TEAM GRADE: A | MVP: (C) Ezra Hoover (14.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 spg)
=

2.

SLA

(4-1)

SLA hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, they're on a better pace than their 2K9 SPR championship season. Much of the credit goes to (F) Joe Kim in another MVP-caliber season but (F) Harris Chung is quietly contributing to wins along with a balanced and defensive-minded supporting cast.

TEAM GRADE: A | MVP: (F) Joe Kim (22.8 ppg, 3 rpg, 2.6 spg)
=

3.

NYF

(4-1)

The record is nice but NYF has been inconsistent. Where would they be without (F) Young Yu, their most consistent scorer, and (C) Bryant Picone, perhaps the league's best defender? Yu has had a resurgence and NYF's guard depth has been why. They make his job easy. Score and lead.

TEAM GRADE: B+ | MVP: (C) Young Yu (14.8 ppg, 2 rpg, 1.5 spg)
=

4.

SWA

(2-3)

Swag plays them all close but hasn't figured out how to consistently close out. Still, they're better than expected with (C) Derrick Tyson leading an athletic and versatile front-court including (F) Amin Gillespie and (F) Dave Liu. Along with their feisty guards, they're improving but still have to close.

TEAM GRADE: B | MVP: (F) Derrick Tyson (13.8 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 4.2 spg)
=

5.

HYP

(1-1)

With only two games under their belt, it's still too soon to tell where these guys really stand but one things for sure, they have a lot of talent. (C) George Chan and (C) Howie Chu anchor a solid group of young, athletic guards and forwards led by (G) Ian Yu and (F) Jason Wu.

TEAM GRADE: B+ | MVP: (F) Jason Wu (16.5 ppg, 2.5 spg, 1.5 bpg)
=

6.

AOD

(1-4)

They have their good moments but AOD hasn't put together four quarters of winning basketball since their season-opening win. They are improving and a .500 record isn't out of the question but that all depends on whether (G) Usama Nausrudeen makes the move up to the ABA next week.

TEAM GRADE: C | MVPs: (G) Usama Nausrudeen (21.5 ppg, 2.2 spg)
=

7.

FAS

(0-5)

With the amount of talent they have, talent with pedigree, it's a little disappointing that FAS hasn't won a game yet. Guard play and defense late in games has been troublesome but if they just string together a few wins, they certainly have the ability to parlay that into the playoffs.

TEAM GRADE: D | MVP: (F) Chris Moore (15.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 spg)
