MLK HS, NYC -- The Sex Panthers last season were an offensive-minded team that struggled on defense and as the season wore on, the wheels simply fell off the bus as games were thrown away late with poor decision-making. Captain (G) Liren Teng went out in the off-season and acquired veterans (G) Alex Cho and (G) Austin Han along with (G) Jeff Mijaro to handle the rock. Against a team like the TX Thunder they were going to need all of them.

INSIDE THE STATS TXT (G) Leuis Ng's 19 pts, 7 rebs and 5 asts marks the 2nd straight game he has tallied 14 or more pts, 6+ rebs and 5+ asts.
TXT (F) Mike Ha's 12 pts, 9 rebs and 6 stls is the closest any player has gotten to a triple double this season, and if you count TOs, maybe a quadruple double.
SXP (F) Chris Di had reached double-digits for 6 consecutive games until last week's 8-pt effort. His 12 pts here get him back on track.
Unfortunately, for SXP, the dynamic Cho would be unavailable. Still, between Mijaro, Han and Teng, there should have been enough veteran savvy to keep up with the younger Thunder, but would their stamina hold? After 2 gms, this is what the TXT seems to do well. They attack you defensively, going for steals and blocks with the intent of getting out in transition where they have strong finishers in (F) Mike Ha and (G) Leuis Ng. In the half-court, Ng runs point while Ha and vet (F) Alex Shu effectively work the mid-range and baselines.
And this is before we even mention FBNYC's newest sharpshooter. It might not be a fluke after all, folks, this is two straight games. TXT's big man, (C) Tom Chu has a deadly stroke. It's so hot, he doesn't need to post up. But, the Panthers have a player like that, too, in (F) Chris Di, last season's Most Outstanding Rookie, who doesn't have the range of Chu but just drops buckets from 15-ft in. Along with some timely points from Han, SXP actually controlled much of the 1st half by playing ball control and picking their spots.
In the 3rd qtr, however, SXP's legs began to tire and TXT overwhelmed the Panthers, who couldn't keep up with their frenetic style. Overcoming 22 TOs, TXT managed to force 20, including 15 stls. But, the veterans had one last push. Behind clutch 4th qtr play from Mijaro, they were within 3 in the game's final minute but never quite got over the top.
In the end, TXT resembles the Lilliputians in the way they force the issue and though they may be less skilled, they might actually be more athletic. Ha leads the team there with an indefatigable motor. It's a give and take with 7 TOs but with two wins so far, the positives outweigh the negatives. -- Kenny "The Jet" Li
