INSIDE THE STATS SXP (G) Liren Teng's 17 pts, including 3 3FGs, matches a career high set against MCH during the 2K9 SPR season.
All five SXP starters reached double-digits in scoring and tallied more than 3 assists each, an FBNYC first.
PS1 (F) Will Lee's 19 FG attempts is a WHITE league career high. His .158 FG%, however, is a career low for 10 or more attempts.
MLK HS, NYC -- This was supposed to be a battle. A grudge match of the sort that makes you throw all past records and statistics right out the window. What appears on paper is all but meaningless when two teams have this much to prove. Instead, PS1 proved they are not ready. This is a team with a good amount of skill players and some bulk in the paint but they are not fit to play ball right now.
Maybe by mid-season they'll be acclimated to the longer but not longest courts of MLK HS but right now, no free agent addition is going to make this team good enough to make up for this debacle. Hate to put it this way but they need to get in better shape. Between and (G) Will Lee, (F) Brian Chow and (F) Duke Hogwild, they have some skill to go around. But, as of now, (C) Zack Huang seems to be their only fit athlete. They either need to hit the Subway diet now or slow the ball way down, something they could not do against the Panthers.
But, don't let the score fool you, either. PS1 is not that bad. The Sex Panthers are not 41 pts better than any team in this league. PS1 just gave up and because this is a grudge match after all, (G) Liren Teng (17 pts, 3 asts) and SXP poured it on. This was one of those message games. Teng's game-high 17 pts came in only 20 minutes of play. He and (G) Jimmy Fang lit it up from deep with 3 3FGs each while the team shot 55% from the field and 62% from range.
It helps when the defenders aren't running out at you anymore. It's tough to say whether or not PS1 can bounce back from a game like this. Maybe it can be galvanizing. Maybe they can rally around this but even EOT never got beat this bad last season. -- Jeff Van Ghandi
