INSIDE THE STATS BAG (C) Rich Chang's 21 pts marks a WHITE league career-high. Every player on the BAG roster recorded a rebound.
BAG also racked up the assists and steals as only Chang finished without at least one assist and only (F) Ricky Huang finished without at least one steal.
MLK HS, NYC -- Two new teams played their season opener with some familiar faces in the mix. For BDB, captain (G) Eric Tuy brought back former All-Star (G) Barrington Grant and RED league MNS teammate (F) Monty Tardio. Both, unfortunately, would struggle with on offense during the contest. Veteran (C) Rich Chang opting to ply his trade again at captain, brought back long time teammate (F) Jason Chan and (G) Eden Chuang. Though Chan would also struggle with his shot, Chang and Chuang made significant contributions.
The difference in this game boiled down to TOs. The undersized Bandits were in striking distance of Chang and the Bros but pressure D from the backcourt of Chuang and rookies (G) Jeff Li, (G) Danny Lee and (G) Terry Huang, Jr. eventually began to wear down the smaller BDB guards. Despite a solid 3rd qtr effort by BDB's one big, (C) Jesse Allouf (4 pts, 6 rebs) the Bandits couldn't keep pace. TOs mounted and BAG turned them into easy offense.
Both Grant and Tardio are streaky scorers so this could have been a different outcome had BDB controlled the ball better. The early season is meant for finding a rotation. For BDB, they have a solid reserve PG in (G) Ryan Decalos and a slasher (G) Mark Concepcion. Both need to control the ball better but can be impact players. And, if (G) Derick Alfonso, who finished with a career-high 7 pts, can maintain his high energy, BDB might have a solid bench rotation. BAG, however, showed they have little weakness so far. The entire team flat out plays to win with an all-out effort, justifying their pre-season no. 1 ranking. -- FBNYC
