INSIDE THE STATS In his first game back from a nearly year-long hiatus, veteran (G) James Choi scored 18 pts in his debut with Team Wet.

MLK HS, NYC -- After a 20-pt thrashing to the Bang Bros in Week 2, Team Wet sensed it was missing the key play-maker or distributor it needed for success. Enter veteran (G) James Choi, the diminutive, former all-FBNYC scoring guard known to some as the "Choir Boy."
Choi impacted the game immediately, scoring Wet’s first 5 pts with a 3FG and a driving layup. The Panthers, however, kept pace with the aggressive play of captain (G) Liren Teng. But, just 4:00 min into the 1st qtr, Teng would land awkwardly after converting what had become a growing trend of strong moves to the hoop this season. He would sustain a painful knee injury, re-injuring the same knee that required surgery two years ago.
Teng left the game and suddenly, not only was SXP without their captain and emotional leader, they were especially short-handed as All-Star (G) Alex Cho missed the game with his own sprained ankle. Wet wasted no time capitalizing with Choi (18 pts, 3 asts) on the perimeter and (C) Sam Nam dominating the paint. Nam finished with 10 pts and a whopping 23 rebs as he alone out-rebounded the entire SXP team. Nam was undeterred by SXP’s questionable interior D.
Wet used its size and strength and the ball-handling skills of Choi to pull out an otherwise closely fought game. The Panthers were able to stay within striking distance due to the efforts of (F) Rich Kim (21 pts, 6 asts, 3 stls). (F) Chris Di (16 pts, 7 rebs) was quiet and (G) Jimmy Fang hit three 3FGs from downtown but shot only 4-16 FGs. Wet’s entire starting five reached double digits in scoring.
