MLK HS, NYC -- The Sex Panthers continued their early season dominance with another convincing win over the Backdoor Bandits. SXP in two games have employed an open-court up-tempo offense led by veterans (G) Alex Cho, (G) Liren Teng and the up-and-coming (G) Jimmy Fang. The frontcourt of (F) Rich Kim and (F) Chris Di have also dominated on the glass this season and helped push the tempo in the open floor.
BDB opened this game strong, despite the final score, and actually led briefly in the 1st qtr. But scoring only 2 pts in the 2nd qtr, they allowed the Panthers to finish the half on a 16-0 run. SXP guards applied pressure early and often, forcing the Bandits into TOs, which led to easy fast break points. Di (22 pts, 18 rebs) turned on the dominance in the 2nd half, when he cleaned up any SXP misses and displayed a polished inside and mid-range game, particularly when Bandits' (C) Jesse Alouf was not in the game.
Rich Kim also filled up the stat sheet with his high energy game, tallying 15 pts, 9 rebs, 4 asts, 3 stls and 1 blk. BDB (F) Monty Tardio (14 pts, 6 rebs) and (G) Barrington Grant (7 pts) continue to struggle with the weight of the offense on their shoulders and shooter (G) Joe Albano nursing an ankle injury. The Bandits may need need more help and have not really helped themselves, giving away too many TOs, (18 in this game) and missing FTs (just 3-12).
